About Gareth and Rachael

Rachael Reeves and Gareth Edwards moved down to Cornwall from London 7 years ago. They have two children Kate and Freddie, Kate came with them, Freddie was born whilst in Cornwall. They are very family oriented while at the same time continuing their independent professional commitments. Soon after having moved down to Cornwall they were invited to become members of the Newlyn Society of Artists (N.S.A) which is based at the Contemporary Newlyn Art Gallery in Penzance and Newlyn, not far from where they now live.

The school will be run from their property, which also houses their two studios. On fine days we all hope
to eat ‘alfresco’

Gareth Edwards

Gareth is a well established Contemporary painter, both in the uk where he is represented by the Hart Gallery in London and the Lemon Street Gallery in Truro and aboard where he shows at the Miami and Geneva Art Fairs. Although trained as an academic in art history it is as an art practioner that he has focussed on for the past fifteen years. He also however keeps a hand in the academic world where he gives lectures at various art colleges around the country. This unique combination of practice and theory forms the basis of a keenly informed delivery at the painting school where students have access to a well stocked personal art library including a huge range of contemporary art periodicals, books, catalogues and over 2000 art and design slides.

Gareth is an active member of the Newlyn Society of Artist with access to the brand new Exchange/Newlyn Gallery in Penzance and Newlyn and has recently been awarded membership of the Royal West of England (RWA). His new show of paintings “Pretty Things” opens in Truro at the Lemon Street Gallery in May/June 07. Please refer to the Gallery page for examples of Gareths recent work.

Rachael Reeves

Is a practioner and teacher, she has a fine arts degree and a masters degree in painting from Chelsea School of Art. She is also an experienced teacher and facilitator. She will have a number of roles at the school; providing support and tuition throughout the day, whilst also being involved in each students progress and development. The school will be run primarily by Gareth but Rachael will certainly play a part in tutoring and
general organisation.
